Facebook Pages Redesign. Good for your business.

Good times are on the rise!

Facebook has begun rolling out a significant redesign of Facebook Pages(business pages). At first glance, it seems like a huge step in the right direction and something that will make an immediate impact on how your business connects with your followers. The changes make Pages look and operate more like personal profiles.

A redesign was thought to be in the works after Facebook accidentally launched a version similar to what we're seeing now, back in December. The update was quickly taken down, but gave admins the the ability to post and comment on other Facebook Pages through a "Login as Page" feature. Today it seems, that feature as well as several others, officially made the cut and appear in the new design.

Success on Facebook and other social media is dependent, more so, on a business's ability to engage their audience rather than the size of the audience itself. Features that help you accomplish the task of engaging and interacting with current and future customers are the true value generators.

What's changed?

Menu On The Left
The first difference you'll notice when you get the updated design will be the new layout. The tabbed menu previously found at the top of Pages has been replaced by a new menu design located on the left side, just like on user profiles.

Photo Showcase
In place of the old tabbed menu is a new photo showcase that features the most recent photos that you've posted on your wall.

Admin View
One of the most notable new features is the flexibility to interact with the other areas of Facebook as a page. You are now able to get notifications when fans interact with your Page or posts via email notifications. You are also able to like other Pages and feature them on your page. Once you've liked other Pages, admins can view activity from the Pages. Best of all, you can finally comment as your brand on the Pages you've liked.

New Settings
You can now set defaults for your email notifications and how you post to your Page – as yourself or your Page. Go to Account>Use Facebook as Page and you can switch your presence to your brand and back to yourself quickly and easily.

Choose FBML or iFrames
Starting today you can also choose to create Page Tab apps using Facebook's FBML code or iFrames. The new ability to use iFrames means apps can be built using standards – based web programming (HTML, JavaScript and CSS). You can also integrate social plugins like comments, registration, recommendations, activity feed, and others directly into an iFrame displayed on your Page.

What hasn't changed?

Posting To a Person's Wall
Pages still can't do everything a user can. Most importantly, Pages still can't post on a user's wall or comment on his or her status. There is one exception, users who have opted for the "everybody" privacy setting do allow Pages to comment on status updates for those individuals.

With the redesign comes a small but significant change to the main content and image area. The space is now 495 pixels wide.

An email has also gone out to Page admins giving them the option to preview the new upgrade or choose to upgrade early. All pages will automatically be upgraded on March 10.

If you already have a Page created for your business you can choose to upgrade or take a tour of the new features by visiting the like here: www.facebook.com/pages/status/ It's important for you to take into account that certain page dimensions have changed. If you have a landing page or other FBML Page Tab apps implemented on your page, you will need to adjust pixel dimensions of those pages if you choose to update to the new design now.
